Switzerland, more diversity than it seems ...
Switzerland looks like an island in the center of Europe. The country is nonetheless composed of surprisingly varied landscapes and populations with very different characters. To the west, from Geneva to the depths of Valais (or almost) and up to the canton of Jura, the Swiss Romandies are unquestionably of Latin origin. It's noticeable the first few words they say.

On the other side of the Sarine (the river which, in particular, crosses Friborg and acts as a bit of a "border") begins the domain of German-speaking Switzerland, the largest and most populous territory (nearly 6 million d inhabitants against 2 million Romands). To the east, Graubünden, where Romansh is still spoken, but little. And south of the Alps, once you have crossed the Saint-Gothard tunnel, Italian Switzerland: Ticino. Three geographical areas therefore (the Jura, the Plateau and the Alps), four national languages (German, French, Italian and Romansh), 26 cantons, i.e. as many small states, each with its own particularities, forming the Swiss Confederation, one of the oldest countries in the world. In Switzerland, federalism is not an empty word!

But if you have to look for what can unite the Swiss, you don't have to look for long: the mountain asserts its strong presence in every landscape.
